Wanted: Software developers. Graphic designers. Social media gurus. Marketing experts. Ninjas.
iPhone Hackathon 4 Charity to be held on July 25 & 26 at The Hub Halifax is a two day event that will bring together talented software developers and graphic designers with the common goal to build as many iPhone applications as possible in one weekend.
The profits from each application will be donated to a local Halifax charity. Building one application means funding for one local charity. Building two applications means funding for two charities, so the more applications we build the greater number of charities will benefit.
Charitable organizations will be funded based on criteria determined by organizers and participants. Caregivers Nova Scotia Association, Joints In Motion, Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia, Imagine Bloomfield Society, Phoenix Youth Programs, Stepping Stone, Leave Out Violence Nova Scotia, Entrepreneurs’ Forum, Ecology Action Centre and Ummah Masjid & Community Center were among the ten local charities that submitted proposals.
Besides supporting these great local charities, the event will also help build relationships among the software development community and highlight The Hub as the ideal working environment for freelancers.
The perks for attendees? Massages courtesy of Be Massage, DJ Rich+ness spinning tracks Saturday evening and smashing T-shirts with original Nick Brunt artwork thanks to Bill Wilson of Mind Sea. Attendees will also enjoy snacks throughout the weekend thanks to Splice Apple Experts and meals courtesy of InNOVAcorp, Broadband for Rural Nova Scotia and Huminah Huminah.
As usual, The Hub has been incredible for hosting and helping organize the event. And big thanks to Ian Conrad and Nick Brunt of Say Hi There for their slick poster design and helping promote the event.
